Begin with the decision the organisation wants to improve: personalisation, service, audience activation, analytics, or data quality. Then identify the data, freshness, consent, and measurement needed to support that outcome.
Certification scenarios often include technically possible options. The stronger answer normally satisfies the business need while respecting governance and operational constraints.
Map sources before modelling
Inventory source systems, identifiers, update frequency, ownership, quality, and retention requirements before designing ingestion. Distinguish batch needs from near-real-time needs rather than choosing the fastest option automatically.
Trace how source fields map into the data model and record assumptions about formats, keys, and missing values.
- Identify the system of record for each important attribute.
- Separate ingestion frequency from activation frequency.
- Validate identifiers before relying on them for matching.
- Plan monitoring for delayed, rejected, or unexpectedly changing data.
Treat identity resolution as governed matching
Identity resolution combines match rules and reconciliation rules to produce unified profiles. Compare deterministic identifiers with probabilistic or fuzzy signals, and consider the cost of false matches as well as missed matches.
A unified profile is not permission to use every attribute. Consent, purpose, regional requirements, and source restrictions still govern activation.
Separate insight, segment, and activation
Calculated insights derive useful measures from available data. Segments identify audiences that meet defined conditions. Activation sends an approved audience or attribute set to a destination for an intended use.
When evaluating a scenario, confirm refresh timing and destination needs at every step. A well-designed segment can still fail the business outcome if its data or activation cadence is unsuitable.
Measure reliability and value
Define success measures before launch, including data freshness, match quality, activation delivery, audience size changes, and the business result the use case should influence.
Practise explaining trade-offs to technical and business stakeholders. Review original scenarios after each study block, and verify current product terminology in official Salesforce material.
